MISSION DISTRICT FOOD TOUR- NORTH
Our most popular food tour is still the most authentic Mission District Food Tour you'll find.
The Mission District Food Tour-North takes you inside this vibrant neighborhood which is home to dozens of restaurants, with seating for thousands along the Valencia Street Corridor from about 16th to 19th Streets. Besides the quality of the food, which is the result of such fierce competition, the diversity of the food is probably the biggest draw to this area's eateries. Our Mission District Food Tour takes you into this delicious and exciting world. Our guides, your hosts, don't have scripts to read, as they all live in this neighborhood and know these streets intimately.
The best neighborhood for new and exciting restaurants, this area is where to find world famous murals, Victorian homes, nightclubs, and a thriving arts scene. And although we do point out the highlights of the neighborhood as well as some unique and fun historical information, the fact is: We are really here for the food, this is a Mission District Food Tour after all, and this is the tour which celebrates the new innovative eateries as well as those who have been in the neighborhood for decades serving the more traditional Latin American food the neighborhood was known for. We work with dozens of restaurants here and pride ourselves on not doing the same tour, two days in a row. Instead we change the itinerary depending on the group size and tastes and by keeping abreast of the happenings and changes in our roster of dining choices.
Our Mission District Food Tour does travel along the Valencia Street Corridor but we aren't married to one street, we traverse the side streets tasting the best dishes that represent the establishment who made them. Trying new dishes to showcase on our food tours is always so hard but someone has to do it, so we soldier on...Depending on the day, we may have tapas, Yucatecan, empanadas, organic and locavore choices, local fruits and vegies, Salvadorean, Southern BBQ (American), Chilean, Mexican, Japanese, Napoli pizza, Burmese, Thai, Vietnamese, Lebanese, Indian, cheese tasting, home- made pies, hand-crafted bitters, small batch chocolate, hand-crafted ice cream, third-wave coffee. The menu is never the same twice but this neighborhood has it all. We will stop by at least five different eateries, (usually 7) on our walk, as we eat our way along Valencia and Mission from 15th through 19th Streets.
Many of the restaurants in the area of course serve alcohol, and we do offer this food tour with an alcohol option which is purchased in advance. In fact, the only way to guarantee that your guide will be taking you into establishments that serve drinks is to pay for the drinks in advance, otherwise the guide may take you to places without a bar and you will be wishing you had taken the chance and purchased the upgrade. If you are bold enough and have enough forethought to make that choice:
